The Summary for Policymakers of the IPCC Working Group III report, Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of climate change was approved on April 4 2022, by 195 member governments of the IPCC, through a virtual approval session that started on March 21. It is the third instalment of the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), which will be completed this year.

Three faculty members from the Institute of Energy, Environment and Economics of Tsinghua University (3E)participated in the compilation -- Teng Fei and Ou Xunmin was the Lead authors, and Chen Wenying was the Review Editor.


The Working Group III report provides an updated global assessment of climate change mitigation progress and pledges, and examines the sources of global emissions.  It explains developments in emission reduction and mitigation efforts, assessing the impact of national climate pledges in relation to long-term emissions goals.

278 experts from 65 countries were invited to take on their roles in the Working Group III contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. Of the selected experts, 36 are Coordinating Lead Authors and 163 are Lead Authors who have the collective responsibility for the contents of their assigned chapters and cross-chapter papers in the report. 13 of the experts are from China.


In previous IPCC reports, Zhang Xiliang, Chen Wenying, Duan Maosheng and Teng Fei, 3E, were the main authors of the AR4 and AR5.
