During sessions of the United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP27, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, On the morning of November 8, the ‘Low Carbon Economic Transition - Innovation and Action’ themed side meeting launched.It was co-hosted by Research Center of Counsellors’ Office of the State Council (COSC) and Institute of Energy Environment and Economy of Tsinghua University.
This event had thinkers and influencers from government, media, universities, institutes discussing the innovation and action of China's low-carbon economic transformation under the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, publicizing China's policies and measures to address climate change, sharing China's carbon reduction experience, and promoting international cooperation and exchanges.
Zhang Xiliang, Director of Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University, was Moderator, Zhang Yantong, Vice Chairman of the COSC, gave Opening Address.
Zhu Tong, Counsellor of the State Council, Dean of College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering of Peking University, delivered a speech titled Coordinate Air Pollution Control and Climate Change Mitigation Measures to Maximize the Co-Health Benefits. Zheng Guoguang, Research Fellow of the COSC, Former Vice Minister of Emergency Management,pointed out that Pay Equal Attention to Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Promote Low-carbon, Green and Sustainable Development. Kelly Sims Gallagher, Director of Climate Policy Lab, Tufts University, talked about Greening overseas finance.
Zhang Xiliang, Director of Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University, introduced Technological Innovations to Achieve China's Carbon Neutrality Goal.Xu Huaqing, Director General of National Center for Climate Changes Strategy and International Cooperation, showed China's Policies and Actions to Accelerate Green and Low-carbon Transition.Chen Long, Chairman of Alibaba Sustainable Development Management Committee, President of Strategic Planning of Alibaba, talked about Digital Platform Innovation Promotes Low-carbon Transition. Li Zhuoran and Zhang Jingfei, Students from Beijing No.8 Middle School, respectively delivered speeches titled A Low-carbon World: What Can We Do and A Study on Beijing Moat from Low Carbon Perspective.
Wang Yi, Prof. of Institute of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Christophe McGlade, Head of the Energy Supply Unit, International Energy Agency，Li Zheng, President of Institute of Climate Change Development, Tsinghua University, Simon Sharpe, Director of Economics, UNFCCC Climate Champions, UK, Chen Long, Alice Ho, Chief Youth Officer of the Global Alliance of Universities on Climate, participated in panel discussion.
Recently, a six-member delegation from the Institute of Energy Environment and Economy of Tsinghua University was invited to attend COP27. Prof. Duan Maosheng attended the COP27 as a member of the Chinese government delegation. The Institute hosted two side meetings, members were invited to deliver speech at the side meetings hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the International Energy Agency.
